Russia and Switzerland - what is the common?
1) Russians and a part of Swiss celebrate the New Year in the Julian calendar on the 13th of January, besides the usual on the 31st of the December. Russians calls it "Old New Year" and Swiss - "Alter Silvester".
2) Swiss and Russians have the similar spring holiday, where they burn a man of straw. This holiday intended to welcome the spring and banish the winter. In the Switzerland this holiday is called Sächsilüüte, in Russia - Масленница (MAS-lee-nee-tsa) - Butter week or Pancake week.
3) Russians and Swiss, when meet or say goodbye to relatives or friends, kiss on the cheek three times.
4) Russians and Swiss, when visiting friends, usually give a little present for hosts (flowers for women, chocolate or bottle of vine).
5) There is a lot of snow in Switzerland and Russia!
