While learn Russian you also learn a particle of Russian soul. That is why we are telling you a lot about our country, language, and famous people. But we forget that probably not less interesting and useful to know how Russians live in real life.

The first post in pictures is about where Russians live. #Real_Russia
Russia is a quite urban country - more than 70% of nation live in towns. Most of the towns are small, with an average population of about 20 ths people (in comparison with Moscow (about 12 mln) and St-Petersburg (about 5 mln), Krasnoyarsk (about 1 mln) it's merely little.
However this means that most of the Russians lives in квартира (kvar-tee-rah) - a flat.
3-, 5- and 9-story apartment buildings are the one of the most widespread in Russia. Most of them were built in Soviet Russia.
One of the most famous (and widespread) type of the building - low-cost concrete-paneled or brick "пятиэтажка" (pya-tee-i-TAZH-ka) - 5-story building or "трёхэтажка" (tryokh-i-tazh-ka) - 3-story building.

They are also called by the people "Хрущёвка" - Khru-SHCHOV-ka" - by the name of the Nikita Khrushchev - who directed a Soviet government in early 1960s when these apartment buildings have been built.
Хрущёвка were built to solve the problem of Коммунальная квартира (Kah-mu-nal’-na-ya kvar-tee-rah) - a communal flat. This is a shared between 3 or more families accomodation, where each family lives in the one комната (KOM-nah-ta) - room, but bath and kitchen are shared.
Nowadays almost nobody remembers about these awful times when you should queued to use a bathroom. So the plan of providing every family with a separate flat was successfully realized.

A picture from the movie “Стиляги” (Stee-LYA-gee) – the modern musical film about Soviet Russia.

How concrete-paneled buildings had being erected.
There is no a лифт (lift) - lift in the most of Хрущёвка .
Typical Russian квартира in such building is from 30 m2 (323 ft2) (1-комната) to 60 m2 (646 ft2) (3-комнаты). Not a lot! But then people had a possibility to move into their own flat.
Most of
Хрущёвка still alive, however they are already temporally challenged.

Typical Russian двор (dvor) - yard near the Хрущёвка.

Street art from the Soviet times.
