DO’s and DON'Ts in Russia - Before coming to Russia

In this article we will tell you how best to prepare for your trip to Russia. DO’s Visa •Be sure that you applied for a visa well in advance. Normally Russian travel agencies and hotels provide a Visa Support letter necessary for a Russian Visa application. (Our company provides you a visa support letter if necessary) Russian embassy website: http://www.russianembassy.net/rusvisa.html •Be aware that all Russian Visas should be registered upon arrival to Russia if your stay in the country is more than 3 days. If you stay in a hotel – they will do it themselves, just be sure that it’s done. If you have another accommodation, the inviting organization/travel agency should register you.

PLEASE NOTE that not registering your Russian visa may lead to serious problems: detention by police, fines on departure, prevention from boarding the plane, etc.

Electricity •Take an electricity converter if needed. The electrical current in Russia is 220V AC. The European standard 2-prong plug is used. Communication •Russian uses GSM network for cell phones. So it is compatible for all of Europe, but incompatible for USA. That means that you can’t communicate by cell phone. However it’s possible to buy a cell phone and SIM card in any of mobile store at a reasonable price (the cheapest price is $20- $50). Conversation •Take a phrasebook or Russian dictionary. It would be very helpful for you to be possible to say key Russian phrases • It’s recommended to learn Russian alphabet and how the letters are pronounced for easy navigate the Russian cities. Medicine •If you take any prescription medication, be sure to bring enough of it for the entire duration of your trip, as some medications are unavailable in Russia. It is also advisable to bring some usual over-the-counter medications with you. These medicines are usually sold in pharmacies, however the labels are in Russian and most store clerks do not speak English. •Do vaccinations from Tickborne Encephalitis if you plan on hiking or camping, and if your country of residence offers it). This tip is applicable only for the summer period of time. DON'Ts •Do not take traveler ’s checks as they are hard to cash. •Do not take a taxi from airport.
